final reflection

I liked learning about new technology out there. I would have to try next year to incorporate some of the things I learned into my teaching. Thanks Sara for putting this together!

comic websites

www.makebeliefscomix.com www.pixton.com www.toondoo.com I have used all of these, plus have given them out to my comic book club. I have even introduced it to some students that had to make a book for a content area class.

Prezi

I like the idea behind Prezis - but I would have to play with it for awhile to really find it affective for Strategies. I like the fact that you can zoom in when you really want the students to pay attention to something, so when teaching the mnemonics you can zoom in and out.

Voice Thread

I was thinking that I could use this for the visual imagery strategy. The students can describe the scene using their own words. The other students then can add to it.

Creative Commons

I was not familiar with this term until I watched the videos. I learned that I can use images as long as I say where I got them from, Something that I was already doing - especially with my club -
This is where I have used most of the images that I look up on Google.
No, I lied, I just looked around my room and saw the posters that my kids made. Some have where they got the images from, others don't. I will make sure that next year, my students will write where they got the images from.

Glogster

My daughter used Glogster in 4th grade, so I already knew about this "fear". I really liked how it worked and how she could show what she knew.

I see kids in my class using it to make their own versions of the mnemonics that they are learning.

Screencasting

Screenr is not available on the iPad,  BUT screen chomp, as Sara so loving pointed out, is.  I have used this with students in the past.  For history, they created their family tree, in math, they worked on math problems, and in SI, they have taken notes and recorded me - ugh! - to see how it works.
Sara - you have done many screencastings with screenr - and it does help!

Google

What I knew:
Word searches give you the definition, .gov, .edu, you can search images by subject, color, photo and clip art, you can search related links, and hear pronunciation.

What I didn't know:
.mil, that google does math!!!, graphing, search within part of the website, putting a - symbol in front of what you don't want to search, visited pages, search by reading level, and links.

I want to know how to find the reading level - please show me - this would save many kids with this research project that they are doing.

Also, putting the - symbol would be helpful to a lot of those research projects.

Math in general - now I can look really smart when it comes to my nieces geometry homework!

Evernote

I like Evernote. I like how students can record the teacher and take notes at the same time. You can email from it as well. Students in my class have taken pictures of notes that I had up on the board. Also, students can get pictures, articles and many other things off the net, as most web pages let you save it to evernote.
Personally, I like Noteability a little better. The color coding that it offers is what swayed me. Also, Noteability let's you hand write as well as type, and you can change the background colors.

Learning Center

- I can see how this would be useful for us. Each of us could choose a strategy and make all the necessary paperwork or other things needed that is not provided in the books. If for example one of us finds or creates paperwork that could be used for that strategy, we can add it in. Also think of all the paper we can save!

Social Bookmarking

I don't know if it's the "public" Internet that I am using or the fact that it is an iPad, I am having trouble with this assignment. I will be visiting Sara at school tomorrow - lucky lady! She did mention that because I am just using the iPad that I would have trouble, guess she was right, again!
After I talked to Sara - she suggested that I download the app. Diigo browser. So easy now!
Using the Diigo browser lets you bookmark the links you want directly to Diigo or any other social network. I can see how you can use it to bookmark sites that you use regularly in a classroom setting.

The RSS

Finding the reader was easy.
Subscribing was really easy, but so many choices!
I can see that it could be used in the content areas, especially when doing research.
